Sorbet
01:50
|
|||
I have only
What i carry
With me always
Is a highway
From my eyelids
To our last day
The radiator
Said see you later
And blew
In the desert
Light is a landscape
Where there’s no mountains
To break your heartache
A sky of orange
And pink sorbet
Will have to do
It’ll have to do

Museum of Light
03:24
|
|||
My sink spills god when I run the faucet
Hot water holy father i’m coming back to life
I’ve been down for so many
Been blue most of my memory
But i woke up this morning to the sun bright yellow sun
So i combed my hair and put on my favorite t shirt
The one with the butterfly carved in black and white
I climbed atop my bicycle and rode down Winooski
And waved to the other visitors in the museum of light
I saw bankers buying flowers
And babies clutching fingers
Of mothers who weren’t always
But forever now shall be
I saw catholics praying
Buddhists meditating
Atheists existing
And that's proof enough for me
My sink spills god when i run the faucet
Hot water holy father it’s all coming back to me
I don't know if there’s a heaven
But i know that there’s the question
And possibility begets possibility

Jenny When the Blues
03:32
|
|||
I don’t believe in eternal damnation
In prison wardens are unpaid vacations
You quit your job at the radio station
Went looking for that voice in the sky
But it gets lonely and it gets cold
So you settle just down the road
A little town where no one knows your name
Done it once or twice before
Killing time at the dollar store
Stay out while it's still warm
Listen to the cicadas sing
Jenny you’re still my best friend
Even when your drug dealer stops answering
Even when the blues come calling
I’ll still show up on your stoop
You’re 5 4 But i'd swear you were 6 foot 6
And if it weren’t for your frame you’d be infinite
You’re a picture of the cosmos
You’re a boat drifting in the dark
I can’t count you
That's why i love you
I can’t contain you
And i don’t want to
I can’t count you
That's how i love you in the dark
I can’t explain you
I don’t want to

Somethinghood
03:53
|
|||
The new world is coming
The new world has gifts for you
Poached eggs in the morning
Fresh fish in the afternoon
And it’s a gift to be breathing
Here sitting next to you
I don’t care about the meaning
It’s the feeling that i’m coming to
On this long drive out of Phoenix
I saw Venus blush in the rearview
I saw Peter dancing in the desert
A shapeshifter in sparkling shoes
The new world is something
And it knows you’re something too
Somethinghood for the plants and the animals
For the light in the kitchen in the afternoon
And its something to be driving
Down the highway next to you
I don’t care about transcribing
Its the riding that i’m coming to
On this long drive out of Phoenix
I saw Tina pulling an old canoe
Full of tangerines as Hesus
Painted passengers passing through
The new world is humming
It’s singing and dancing too
And though todays song is a sad one
That’s all bound to change real soon
It’s the humming that keeps us going
No matter what the tune
I don’t care about denoting
Its the whole thing that i’m coming to
On this long drive out of Phoenix
I saw Venus blush in the rearview
I saw Peter dancing in the desert
A shapeshifter in sparkling shoes
On this long drive out of Phoenix
I saw Tina pulling an old canoe
Full of tangerines as Hesus
Painted passengers passing
Through nowhere
As we passed through nowhere
I looked over my shoulder
And didn’t think much

Frankie is Alive
04:01
|
|||
On the day Frankie was born
Brush fires ravaged Perth Australia
And she licked my knees as we mourned
A loss beyond understanding
And from the FM radio poured
Songs of hope songs about dancing
On the day Frankie was born
On the day Frankie turned 10
Dolphins returned to the canals of Venice
And Ozzy Ozbourne opened
His own chain of gothic BBQ restaurants
On the day Frankie turned 20
We made contact with intelligent life
From a planet quite like our own
Somewhere off in the milky way’s eye
The milky way’s eye
On the day Frankie turned 30
She became the first dog to ever turn 30
And above packed arena seating
She was knighted in front of a crowd of one billion
On the day Frankie turned 40
Scientists discovered how to separate the soul from the body
And they sent her soul up to the sun
To shine shine down on everyone
Frankie is Alive

Heaven
03:17
|
|||
In the daylight of your kitchen
With your cat upon my lap
Bread steaming in the sunshine
From the other room i hear your careless laugh
When i imagine heaven it looks a lot like this
My internal map of heaven
And it looks a lot like this
In the nightlight of the diner
Surrounded by old friends
You order hashbrowns and eggs benedict
And the jukebox plays as Martha sways her hips
When i imagine heaven
It looks a lot like this
My internal map of heaven
And it looks a lot like this
And at the end of my life
I know it's gonna feel like
Going to the grocery store and forgetting what i needed
At the end of my life
When i finally realize
I’ve always had exactly what i needed

Big Hole in the Sky
04:57
|
|||
Hear a voice singing in my ear
Pretty things on a pretty day
As the tire swing pendulum play thing
Burns the eve away
And Marys coming over
To blush pink and say grace
To fall asleep on the sofa
To wake up and start again
The world you know is ending
You can feel it in the quiet
In the junkyard breeding lightyears
Of upturned cars on fire
But there’s a light at the end of your tunnel
There’s a big hole in the sky
There’s a light at the end of your tunnel
There’s a big hole in the sky
Couldn’t find the light
So i stumbled through the dark
Felt the breeze as I stepped outside
And you led me by the arm
We sank below the water
And you breathed into my mouth
The visions of another
And the rise of somewhere else
The one you love is bleeding
And you know this to be true
There are traces in the hedgegrove
There’s a signal inside you
But there’s a light at the end of your tunnel
There’s a big hole in the sky
There’s a light at the end of your tunnel
There’s a big hole in the sky
Hear a voice in my ear singing
Lucky things on a lucky day

Motion Sickness
03:29
|
|||
In that golden hour
When the sun does fall
Into a crystal cavern
Illuminating painted walls
And i among the lesser beings
And you asleep in bed
Chasing wiry haired puppy dogs
Through dark arcadian grass
It’s an old and tired motion
But it still feels new to me
Some stale circadian rhythm
Of feverish jubilee
And when i lie beside you
Still spinning in its glow
With 1000 miles til morning
And no clear direction home
Dying if i should linger
To long to miss you when i go
The down window curbs the motion sickness
But the wind blowing down
Recalls what you already know
That it’s all just passing by
